Officer Training School

If you complete AFROTC at a university, do you have to attend Officer training school?

I've been researching for a career in the Air Force I was just wondering if you graduate from AFROTC do you have to attend Officer training school or do you enter immediately as an officer, another question is can you skip college an enter Officer training school right after high school? Please answer soon.

  1. Upon entering your 3rd year of ROTC you will sign your commission. Basically stating that you will serve your country as a commissioned officer once you graduate. From there you will probably go to a basic and advanced course of your specific duty, as a 2LT. As far as I know you still cannot enter the service (straight out of HS) with the intent of becoming a commissioned officer without a Bach. Degree of some sorts. You can obtain this degree while you are in, then they have the option of sending you to Officers Candidate School (OCS), then off to all your basic and advance courses. As always, this is at the needs of the military, If they need officers they will send you.
  2. No you do not go to OTS if you take AFROTC and graduate. You will go to the summer leadership session before your Junior year You must have a college degree to apply for a commission and go to OTS.
  3. College ROTC grads have a commission as a 2nd Lt. (O-1). If they accept it, (optional at that point) they are required to serve for whatever number of years are required these days. (It used to be 4 years.) Then they have to go to whatever military course they will need for their particular specialty. I'm not familiar with the course particulars for the AF, being a retired Army officer. In the Army it was the basic branch qualification course for the officer's commissioned branch. I E: Infantry, armor, field artillery, Ordnance, etc. In peace time (no declared wars) the military does not accept non college degree holders into OCS. The Army did have a warrant officer course for helicopter pilots, but they were the only service that offered flight training to non-officers and they discontinued it many years ago.
  4. Jeepers said it best. You commission after you graduate from college/university, not your third year.
